Professional Development

Range: Why Generalist Triumph in a Specialized World

  • I consider myself a bit of a generalist and have interest in a lot of things. This book is a good reminder than diverse interest individually, as well as collectively, makes us all better.

Start with Why

  • Being a product driven engineering leader, I find myself referencing the theme of this book often. Getting teams to be focused on the problem and not the solution. This is especially important when engineers just wanna engineer.

Pragmatic Programmer

  • I love this book for new CS grad who need to shift their thinking from projects to code their going to have to actually maintain

The Mythical Man-Month

  • My favorite to tout when leadership thinks throwing people at a problem is going to solve it faster.

Staff Engineer

  • A great resource for engineers who want to advance their leadership skills and want examples of technical leadership without people management.

  • A quick parable about the importance of feedback. This really highlights my philosophy that high-performers deserve more attention and feedback than low-performers.
