The Gifts of Imperfection

Author: Brené Brown

Title: Gifts of Imperfection

Quote:

“How much we know and understand ourselves is critically important, but there is something that is even more essential to living a wholehearted life: loving ourselves” pg. xxiv of the 10th Anniversary Edition

Why I love it:

Both personally and professionally, you can’t go wrong reading Brené Brown. I read this book when I was struggling with what I wanted from my job versus what I felt I was supposed to do. It helped me realize there was a mismatch and I needed to change a few things. She outlines 10 guideposts to help you evaluate areas that might “get in the way” of living wholeheartedly.

How I use it:

I continue to revisit it whenever things feel off. I review the guideposts and pick one to recenter and intentionally practice. In the past year, Guidepost #2 “Cultivating Self-Compassion: Letting Go of Perfectionism” has been the one I’ve come back to most over the years. This post is a great example. After years of thinking about starting a blog, I’m finally putting something out there, even if it’s imperfect.

Have you read The Gifts of Imperfection? What Guidepost resonated most with you?
